Baileys 1920s Block Shiraz

Rating: 93

Big reds and the Glenrowan region go hand in hand.  The reds were pretty rough and ready 40 years ago, but they've been civilised since.  They're still no blushing violets, though.

CURRENT RELAEASE 2003 A very deep, blackish Shiraz with plenty of punch.  It has a demiglaze-like concentration of jammy black fruit on the nose, and there's a typical earthy ironstone regionality to it.  Oak is in good balance.  The powerful palate is rich and deeply flavoured with a firm, dry tannic grip supporting it.  A wine to lay down for the long haul, then drink with rare rump steak.
