2007 Vintage Report – Glenrowan
The 2007 vintage season has been challenging for Baileys due to implications caused by frost and bush fires. In the summer of 2007, large areas of the Alpine region of North East Victoria burnt continuously for up to 70 days. This resulted in significant quantities of smoke-affected fruit.
Baileys winemaker, Paul Dahlenburg, conducted numerous trials and after considerable effort has concluded that all red and fortified wine from the 2007 vintage will not be released under the Baileys brand. We recognise this will cause out of stock issues but would prefer this imposition compared to releasing an inferior product and compromising our integrity. This decision clearly illustrates Baileys commitment to quality and consistency of style. Wines from Baileys of Glenrowan will only be produced when exceptional quality wines, true to style, can be produced.
2008 Vintage Report – Glenrowan
After the disastrous 2007 drought-affected vintage, 2008 in Glenrowan has bounced back to deliver wines typical of the region – concentrated, intense fruit in balance with ripe, firm tannins – the type of Baileys wine that people have come to know and love. Yields were down 30% on an average season but even with a limited water supply, a healthy canopy was maintained throughout the growing season. Crushing at Baileys finished by the end of March, the 2008 vintage will go down as one of the earliest on record. |
