Deep velvet red in the glass, it displays lifted floral aromas with hints of plum, mulberry and cherry. On the full-bodied palate, rich berry and dark fruit flavours with nuances of mixed spice are supported by silky tannins leading to a persistent finish.
Viticulture
The 1920s Block is a patch of 80+-year-old shiraz vines on the Baileys Glenrowan vineyard with its well drained, deep red granite soils. This block is dry grown which, in the warm climate of Glenrowan, ensures fruit that is rich, ripe and unique in its intensity.
Vinification
After harvesting, the shiraz was fermented in 2-tonne open fermenters. The 1920s Block Shiraz comprises many small ferments with varying yeast, temperature regimes and time on skins. This variation builds complexity and enhances the quality of the finished wine. After pressing, the wine was transferred to French oak for 18 months' maturation. Afterwards, the parcels were tasted – with only superior barrels selected – then blended and prepared for bottling.
Suggested Food
Ideal with succulent red meats or game.
Cellaring
This wine will reward long-term cellaring and develop further complexity with age.
